Certified Thickness Standards
Certified coated metal plates and polystyrene blocks are ideal for verifying the accuracy and operation of coating thickness gages and are an important component in fulfilling both ISO and in-house quality control requirements.

Many organizations require verification of gage accuracy at the test site each time a coating thickness gage is put into service and at frequent intervals during use. Ideal for this purpose, DeFelsko certified coating thickness standards have measured values traceable to a National Metrology Institution.

Used to verify the accuracy and operation of any Type 1 (mechanical) and Type 2 (electronic) magnetic, eddy-current or ultrasonic coating thickness gage
Ideal for use in the calibration lab, in the field or on the factory floor
Standards with steel or aluminum substrates consist of 4 plates mounted in a protective binder
Polystyrene thickness standards consist of 4 blocks supplied in a rugged acrylic storage box

Certified Plastic Shims
Certified Plastic Shims (foils) provide an economical alternative to coated metal plates. They have a reduced accuracy of ±2 µm (±0.08 mil). A coating thickness gage measures shim thickness when this shim is placed over a smooth metal surface (zero plate).

Non-Certified Plastic Shims (foils) provide a quick operational check of the instrument and they allow the user to perform practice measurements when placed over metal.

Alternatively, they can be placed over an uncoated metal substrate. They are not suitable for use with magnetic pull-off gages.

When do I buy the PosiTest DFT instead of the PosiTector 6000?
The PosiTest DFT is a simple, economical solution for those who have no need for the innovative features of the PosiTector 6000 Standard or Advanced models including higher resolution and accuracy, internal memory, PosiSoft software compatibility and universal probe interchangeability. The PosiTector 6000 was designed for the harshest of environmental conditions. The impact resistant, high grade industrial strength housing is solvent, acid, oil, water and dust resistant. PosiTector 6000 Advanced models have additional features including increased memory storage, scan mode, SSPC PA2/PSPC-90/10 modes and WiFi wireless technology for connecting to mobile devices.

What does the PosiTest DFT offer that other low-cost gages don’t?
We’ve packaged PosiTector 6000 probe technology in a smaller, simpler, more economical platform. The PosiTest DFT is designed for users who don’t need memory or downloading features- just the quality probe technology that DeFelsko is known for. Our reliable ruby-tipped probes are wear-resistant and measure accurately — both out-of-the-box and after extended use. There is no need for repeated calibration adjustments like with cheaper instruments. The PosiTest DFT is a simple gage that retains proven DeFelsko quality.

How can I make calibration adjustments with the PosiTest DFT?
For most applications, the PosiTest DFT is ready to measure right out of the box. When necessary, a Zero or 1 Point adjustment can be performed via the gage menu.

How is the PosiTest DFT calibrated at DeFelsko?
The PosiTest DFT is calibrated against known standards traceable to a National Metrology Lab. A long form Certificate of Calibration containing actual thickness measurements is included with every gage.

Can the PosiTest DFT store or print data?
No. The PosiTest DFT has a running average mode which provides the average for up to 99 measurements. The readings, however, are not stored in memory. Once the gage is powered off, the readings are erased. The PosiTest DFT cannot print readings.

How does the menu work?
The icon-based menu is easy to use. Simply press both the (-) and (+) buttons simultaneously to enter the menu. Press either button to move the cursor, and press both buttons to select an option.

Do your instruments require any formal training for use? Do you offer ‘demo’ models?
No. Our instruments are designed for simple operation, feature easy-to-use menus, both full and quick instruction manuals, and helpful videos. In lieu of demonstration models, we provide unlimited technical support via telephone and/or email, and a limited 30-day money back guarantee.

Is the PosiTest DFT calibrated at the factory?
The PosiTest DFT arrives fully calibrated and ready to measure. A Long-Form Certificate of Calibration traceable to NIST or PTB is included, which documents actual readings taken by your instrument at our calibration laboratory on standards traceable to a national metrology institute. Beware of ‘Certificates’ or ‘Certificates of Conformance’ offered by competitors. These typically do not include actual instrument readings, and are often insufficient to meet common quality requirements.
